What is .... ?
COLOR
Being a natural product, quarried from the earth, stone slabs will have color variations ranging from light to dark and other characteristics such as veins, striped and other inclusions. These color creations cannot be entirely avoided and may likely appear in your counters. SLAB APPROVAL IS MANDATORY
THICKNESS
Will vary from 1 1/8” to 1 ¼” (slabs are not gauged).
DIVOTS Small pitted areas or divots may appear in the stone’s surface. This is a result of the (heat producing) polishing process and is normal. As there is generally insufficient depth, they cannot be filled.
FISSURES
These natural lines of separation may appear in your slabs and it’s a characteristic of natural stone. This is not structural weaknesses and granite being inert; it will not expand (grow) in the future.
STRESS CRACKS
Due to size factors, a stress crack may occasionally develop at a sink or cook top cut out. This can occur possibly during handling or if cabinets are not in the same plane (level) one to the other. A steel rod imbedded in the bottom of the stone, at the front and back, prevents the stone from actually breaking. On the other hand any piece that becomes fractured shall be repaired, as granite is a repairable product.
SEAMS
Due to limitations set by slab lengths and safety factors (i. e. breakage during handling) your countertops shall have seams approximately 1/16” wide. THIS IS UNAVOIDABLE. While seams shall be filled with colored epoxies (to approximately match the color of the stone), they CANNOT be made to disappear nor can they be made invisible. They shall always be evident.
SLAB BOW
Some slabs may have a slight bow in the middle of the countertop, being evident at the seam. We do not recommend “buffing” this down as the plane of the stone will be altered, affecting the light’s reflection as compared with the rest of the counter.
BACK SPLASH
As walls are never true and straight, some open spaces may appear between the wall and the back splash, back splash cannot be “scribed” to the wall. Also is NOT our responsibility to caulk back splash along the wall.
LEVEL
Cabinets must be level for a granite top installation. On remodel installations, where existing cabinets are not leveled, we can make it by just having a straight line between points. However, level in all directions is expected and recommended. Cabinet leveling is NOT our responsibility. Some times shims are installed between counters and cabinets to prevent granite from breaking, covering them is NOT our responsibility.
EDGE PROFILES
Edge profiles are fabricated with diamond router profilers. All profiles will leave a visible line on the edge of the counter, we do NOT touch the face of the stone and the line will be always evident.
CUT OUTS Customer may keep cut outs as is, straight cutting and polishing is available for an extra fee.
DUST
Most of the fabrication process is done at the shop, some times work needs to be done at the site, (cut outs, seam work, etc.), Installers carry vacuum cleaners to minimize dust. Some dust may set on the rooms, this is part of the installation process and it is acceptable. Professional cleaning is available for an extra fee.
UNDER MOUNT SINK
Under Mount Sink applications are common in Granite counters, Mount Fee refers to the work involved in cutting the hole in the stone and polishing, it also includes mounting the sink on the bottom of countertop, mount fee does not include plumbing work.
